Ever finish a workout, close the laptop and think “I’ll stretch later”? Girls, later never comes.
I did that for years. Then I wondered why my legs felt like concrete and why I couldn’t touch my toes anymore.
It’s a 10-minute full body stretching routine! 🎯
Ten minutes, eight stretches, your whole body. That’s it.
No equipment, no gym, no yoga teacher telling you to find your inner peace. Just you, your breath, and a bit of floor.
Here’s everything I do after my workouts, and honestly, some nights before bed too.
Why Stretching Is The Part We All Skip
We skip stretching because it doesn’t burn calories and it doesn’t feel like “work”. I get it, truly.
But here’s the thing: tight muscles are unhappy muscles. They feel heavy and achy.
And tight muscles make your next workout harder than it needs to be, too.
It’s one of the most common mistakes I see girls make, and I wrote about it in my post about common workout mistakes.
Skipping the cool down is right up there with skipping the warm up, girls.
Stretching helps your muscles recover, keeps your joints happy and slowly improves your flexibility. It’s the quiet hero of any fitness routine. 💪
And if you’ve been doing my kettlebell workout or the resistance band leg workout, trust me — your legs will thank you for this routine.
Before You Start: My Simple Rules
Three rules, girls, and they matter more than the stretches themselves.
Rule one: never bounce. Bouncing (they call it ballistic stretching) can make your muscles tighten up even more. Hold each stretch still and steady.
Rule two: breathe. Exhale slowly as you sink deeper into the stretch. If you’re holding your breath, you’re going too hard.
Rule three: it should feel good, not brutal. A gentle pull, yes. Sharp pain, never.
Back off a little and just breathe through it.
The 10-Minute Full Body Stretching Routine
Do each stretch for about 45 seconds, with 15 seconds to transition to the next one. That’s ten minutes total.
Want more detail per muscle group? I have a whole post on how to stretch right for every muscle group that goes deeper.
A quick note on order: we go top to bottom, from neck to calves. That way you never miss a body part.
1. Neck Side Stretch
Sit or stand tall and gently tilt your right ear toward your right shoulder. Let the left shoulder drop away.
Hold, breathe, then switch sides. This one melts screen-neck like nothing else.
If you work at a desk or scroll your phone a lot, this stretch is your new best friend, trust me.
2. Cross-Body Shoulder Stretch
Bring your right arm across your chest and hug it with your left hand. Keep the shoulder down, away from your ear.
You’ll feel the back of your shoulder open up. Switch sides after 45 seconds.
3. Cat-Cow
Get on all fours. Arch your back and look up as you inhale, then round your spine and tuck your chin as you exhale.
Move slowly, ten rounds. Your whole spine wakes up with this one. 🐱
4. Child’s Pose
From all fours, sit your hips back onto your heels and stretch your arms long in front of you.
Rest your forehead on the mat and just breathe. This is my favorite minute of the whole routine.
5. Cobra Pose
Lie on your belly, hands under your shoulders, and gently press your chest up. Keep your hips on the floor.
This opens the front of your body after all those squats. Go only as high as feels comfortable.
6. Seated Forward Fold
Sit with your legs long in front of you and hinge forward from your hips, reaching toward your toes.
I call this the hamstring opener, and it’s the one my legs beg for after leg day. If you want more like it, try my 9 stretches for lean legs.
7. Figure-Four Hip Stretch
Lie on your back, cross your right ankle over your left knee, and pull the left thigh toward your chest.
Hips get so tight from sitting all day. This one hurts so good. Switch sides.
Almost everyone’s hips are tighter than they realize, so don’t worry if you can’t pull the thigh in far at first.
8. Standing Calf Stretch
Stand facing a wall, step your right foot back and press the heel into the floor. Lean gently forward.
Hold, then switch. Calves are the most forgotten muscle in stretching — show them some love. ✨
When To Do This Routine
The best time is right after your workout, while your muscles are still warm. That’s when stretching feels easiest and works best.
But honestly? Any time you do it counts. I do this routine in my pajamas some nights, and it helps me fall asleep faster than any tea.
Mornings work too. If you wake up stiff, ten gentle minutes changes your whole day.
If you’re walking for weight loss like me, this pairs beautifully with daily walks. I talked about why in my walking for weight loss post.
Ten minutes of stretching, then a nice long walk. That’s self-care that actually gets results. 🚶♀️
How Long Until You’re More Flexible?
Real talk: you won’t touch your toes after one session. Flexibility is slow, quiet work.
But do this ten-minute routine three to five times a week, and in about a month you’ll notice it. Reaching gets easier, bending feels lighter, that after-workout stiffness fades faster.
Consistency beats intensity, always. Ten relaxed minutes every week beats one heroic hour once a month.
Your body keeps score of the little things you do for it, girls. 🌸
So tonight, after your workout (or instead of scrolling your phone in bed), roll out a towel and give me ten minutes.
One more thing, girls: stretching is also ten quiet minutes with yourself. No notifications, no noise, no to-do list.
In a world that never stops moving, that alone is worth showing up for.
Your future, bendier self is already thanking you.
